STEM Sisterhood is a network of all-girl FIRST Lego League Explore teams throughout Capistrano Unified School District. Each participant will be paired up with one of our SWENext members based on shared interests. Deadline to register is June 1st. The summer camp will begin the week of June 6th, and the official FLLE season begins August 3rd.

FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16* through fun, exciting hands-on learning. FIRST LEGO League participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. In FIRST LEGO League, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge and developing habits of learning. FIRST LEGO League’s three divisions inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.
In Explore, teams of students ages 6-10 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education WeDo 2.0.

Teams are limited to 6 members. There will be a minimum of 2 mentors per team. If your child wishes to be placed into a team with a friend, please specify so in the form linked in the next block. Due to the nature of this program, we are limiting sign-ups to girls or non-binary individuals between the ages of 6 and 10. If the student in question does not fall into the category but wishes to pursue robotics, please contact us at 5199swenext@gmail.com.
Fill out the above form to match with one of the girls from our SWENext team! The form will help us pair up participants with a mentor of similar interests. The big sister will not change for the entirety of the program (with exceptions, such as if a schedule conflict arises). Because the program goes into the school year, big sisters will be there to guide little sisters academically if needed as well.Â

The program is year-long and continuous. The deadline to sign up is June 1st, and each child must fill out the sign-up form by this date if they wish to continue the program, regardless of previous enrollment. FLL comes up with new challenges each year, so the program will never be repetitive.
Any girls, or nonbinary individuals, between the ages 6 and 10 are welcome to join us! Once the participant turns 10, they will graduate from FLLE and will be provided with the resources needed for continuing their pursuit of STEM and robotics. They may also keep in touch with their Big Sister if they so choose.Â
Studies have shown that girls who are exposed to STEM at an early age with the guidance of a female role model are more likely to pursue STEM as a career. We wish to provide students with a clear pathway throughout their K-12 education so that they are well-equipped for college. Please see our project proposal for more information as well as statistics/facts.
The Big Sisters are us SWENexters! We are a group of high school students trying to provide underrepresented groups access to STEM and robotics. See the About Us page to learn more. There will always be at least 5 Big Sisters present at each session. In addition, there will be adult supervisors to ensure everyone is safe and everything goes smoothly.
