Siren

Meet Siren, our robot for the 2024 Crescendo season. Its purpose was to collect rings and shoot them into a goal as well as climb on a chain and score a ring into a small door.

See below for some helpful links:

Crescendo

Crescendo’s theme is centered around music. Two alliances of three teams each compete to collect rings called notes and shoot them into their goal called the speaker. They can also score in the amp, allowing them to amplify the amount of points earned in the speaker for ten seconds. At the very end of the match, robots have to climb onto a chain and score a note in the trap.

Awards

    • Excellence in Engineering Award – Orange County Regional

Hueneme Port Regional (Feb. 29 - Mar. 3)

Unfortunately, the Robot Dolphins had many issues at this event. Their drivetrain was broken nearly every match. However, despite these issues, they were still able to rank 10th with a ranking score of 2.11 and became the 8th alliance captain. After much deliberation, they decided to choose 3255 and 4414 as their alliance partners. Sadly, they were not able to win against Alliance 1 and Alliance 5 in the playoffs. Even though they weren’t able to win this event, they learned how to fix many issues with their bot in preparation for the Los Angeles Regional.

Los Angeles Regional (Mar. 14 - Mar. 17)

The Robot Dolphins were determined to qualify for worlds here after their loss at Port Hueneme. After the qualification matches, the Robot Dolphins were ranked 9th with a ranking score of 2.10. They were then picked by the second alliance captain, 1197, as well as 4123. In their first playoff match against Alliance 7, they lost by only one point, knocking them down to the lower bracket. Sadly, they again lost to Alliance 6 and were eliminated. The Robot Dolphins knew that they had to do everything they could to prepare for the Orange County Regional as it was their last chance to qualify.

Orange County Regional (Mar. 27 - Mar. 30)

In the days leading up to this event, the Robot Dolphins made sure that they did everything they possibly could to improve their performance from the previous regionals. The changes they made significantly improved their rank as they finished the qualification matches as rank 1 with a ranking score of 3.78. Their ranking score was one of the highest ranking scores any team has gotten this year as they only missed two ranking points throughout all of their qualification matches. They then picked 8033 and 3473 as their alliance partners. They won their first match but then were knocked down to the lower bracket by Alliance 4. They continued to progress in the lower bracket until they faced Alliance 4 again. Unfortunately, one of their alliance partners broke, costing them the match and causing them to be eliminated from the tournament. Even though they weren’t able to qualify for worlds, they were still able to win the Excellence in Engineering Award.
