Rapid React

This game’s theme revolves around transportation. The game is split up into two alliances of three teams where each alliance has to score points by collecting and shooting balls into the upper and lower hoops. These balls are known as cargo. Toward the end of the match, they can also climb on rungs to earn extra points at the end.

Hueneme Port Regional (Mar. 3 - Mar. 6)

For this season, the Robot Dolphins tried their luck at one of the first regionals taking place. After the qualification matches, they were ranked 9th with a ranking score of 2. They were then picked by the 4th alliance captain, 6560, and 4400 played alongside them as well. They were able to win the first two quarter final matches against Alliance 8, but were unfortunately not able to beat Alliance 1 in the semifinals. However, the team was still very glad to have won the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award and FIRST Dean’s List Finalist Award thanks to its amazing mentors and students, Stuart Lee and Roux Lake.

Orange County Regional (Mar. 9 - Mar. 12)

The Orange County Regional gave the Robot Dolphins another chance to qualify for the world championships this season. During the qualification matches, they performed much better than they did at the Hueneme Port regional, ranking 4th with an average ranking score of 2.36. After the alliance selection, they were the captains of alliance 3 and played along with 4201 and 4123. They performed well during their first two matches in the playoffs, winning both of them against Alliance 6 and advancing to the semifinals. They had to face Alliance 2 in the semifinals. There had to be a tie breaker match but sadly, the Robot Dolphins lost and were not able to advance to the finals. They were disappointed that they were so close to the finals yet again, but were still glad that they were able to make it to the semifinals against so many formidable teams.

Aerospace Valley Regional (Apr. 6 - Apr. 9)

The Robot Dolphins had some time in between the Orange County Regional and the Aerospace Valley Regional. In this time, they were able to make many improvements to their robot and reevaluated their strategy. They knew that this regional was their last chance of qualifying for the world championships. After the qualification matches, the Robot Dolphins were ranked 1st with a ranking score of 3.16. This was the highest they’ve been ranked this season in a regional. They decided to pick 4414 and 5526 as their alliance partners. This alliance went undefeated through the entire playoffs and eventually became regional winners after beating Alliance 2 in the finals. The Robot Dolphins were elated after this victory because it meant that they qualified for the World Championships. In addition to this, they also won the Entrepreneurship Award.

Houston World Championship (Apr. 20 - Apr. 23)

After winning Aerospace Valley Regional, the Robot Dolphins were placed into the Carver Division in the World Championships. After the qualification matches, they were ranked 35th with a ranking score of 2.7. They were then picked by 862 to be a part of Alliance 4 along with 696 and 2491. In the quarterfinals, they were placed against Alliance 5. They were able to win their first match, but then lost the next two matches, knocking them out of the tournament. The Robot Dolphins were still proud of themselves for being able to make it this far amongst so many other teams.
