Leviathan
Meet Leviathan, our robot for the 2018 Power Up season. Leviathan weighed 120lbs and was (height) tall. Its purpose was to collect power cubes and place them on the scale, switches, and in the vault. It was also able to climb to a bar at the end of the match.

Power Up
The game has a retro 8-bit theme and teams are required to place milk crates, or “power cubes”, on large balancing scales to tip the scale and gain ownership. Alliances can also trade power cubes for power ups, giving them a temporary advantage in a match. At the end of the match, robots can climb the tower attached to the center balancing scale using a rung attached to the tower, giving them additional points.

San Diego Regional (Mar. 7 - Mar. 10)
Unforeseen issues terrorized the Dolphins throughout the 2018 San Diego Regional, and team was unfortunately unable to mount a comeback and advance to the playoffs. The team finished the event in 52nd place with a record of 3-5-0, but the disappointing start to the season only served to motivate the Dolphins to be even more prepared for their next regional in just two short weeks.
Ventura Regional (Mar. 28 - Mar. 31)
Fired up a by lackluster performance at their first regional, the Robot Dolphins were determined to make a statement at the Ventura Regional. The Dolphins started off the tournament with a bang, winning seven matches in a row. A narrow two point defeat in their eighth match did not deter the Dolphins in any as they pushed onward, ending qualification matches in first place with a record of 11-1-0. This event marked the first time that the Robot Dolphins had ever been the first place alliance captains, and they used their position to add team 968, RAWC, and team 580, Viking Robotics, to their playoff alliance. The partners swept their way through the quarterfinals and semifinals without dropping a single match. In the finals, the Dolphins met the second place alliance, captained by team 3512, Spartatroniks. After winning the first match, the Dolphins felt unstoppable, but an incredible comeback by their opponents caused the Dolphins to lose their second match of the event in a crushing 418-323 defeat. The tiebreaker round pushed both alliances to their limits, but an early seize of the central scale allowed Spartatroniks and their partners to remain in control for the majority of the match, defeating the Dolphins 306-355. As the second place alliance captains, the Dolphins won a wildcard at the tournament, allowing them to compete in the Houston World Championships. Due to the unique autonomous pathing system developed by lead programmer Tomo Wakayama, the Dolphins also won the Innovation in Control Award, sponsored by Rockwell Automation.
Houston World Championships (Apr. 18 - Apr. 21)
At their first trip to the World Championships in 2016, the Dolphins struggled against the tough competition and were unable to compete in the playoffs. With another opportunity to prove themselves against teams from around the globe, the Dolphins were beyond excited when they arrived in Houston for the tournament. Fueled by their recent successes in Ventura, the team won back-to-back matches to start the competition off strong. The increased level of competition forced the Dolphins to work harder than they ever had before, and the team was proud to finish qualification matches with a record of 7-7-0. Leaders of the fifth seed alliance, G3 Robotics, drafted The Nerd Herd, the Robot Dolphins, and Indigo Dynamics to join them in the playoffs. The four teams worked flawlessly together, upsetting the fourth seed alliance in a 2-0 victory. Ecstatic to have surpassed all expectations, the Dolphins and their partners advanced to the semifinals. While the team was eliminated in the semifinals, mentors, parents, and students alike rejoiced and celebrated at their team’s unprecedented success in the 2018 season.
