Poseidon
Meet Poseidon, our robot for the 2016 Stronghold season. (insert weight and height here). Its purpose was to collect boulders such as balls and score them in their goals to weaken the opponent’s defenses. It was also able to scale the opponent’s tower by climbing onto a rung at the end of the match.
See below for some helpful links:
Stronghold
The game was played by two alliances of up to three teams each, and involves breaching the opponents’ defenses, known as outer work as well as capturing their tower by first firing “boulders” (small foam balls) at it, and then surrounding or scaling the tower using a singular rung on the tower wall. Points were scored by crossing elements of the tower’s outer works, shooting boulders into the opposing tower’s five goals in order to lower the tower strength, and by surrounding and scaling the tower.

- Finalist Award – Las Vegas Regional
- Competitor at St. Louis Word Championships
- Finalist Award – Offseason Battle at the Border Event
San Diego Regional (Mar. 2 - Mar. 5)
The Robot Dolphins ranked 8th out of 63 State and National Teams in qualification matches and advanced to Quarterfinals as captains of Alliance 7, alongside Team 339 and Team 2339. Though the team did not make it past Match 2 in Quarter 3, it still won the Creativity in Design Award sponsored by Xerox Corporation for the use in Components in Strategy and Play. A result of the team’s dedicated members and constructive mentors, this is the most prestigious design award the Robot Design Group has ever won to date.
Las Vegas Regional (Mar. 30 - Apr. 2)
At the Las Vegas Regional, the Robot Dolphins competed against teams from countries all over the world, including the United States, China, Brazil, Germany, and the Netherlands. After struggling through qualification matches and ending in 15th place, the Robot Dolphins were selected for the 7th Team Alliance with Teams 60 and 295. The Robot Dolphins alliance beat the 2nd and 4th team alliances, wins that allowed it to advance to the finals against the No. 1 seed, the High Rollers. Although the Robot Dolphins lost to the High Rollers, all three teams from its alliance were able to qualify as Wildcards for the World Championships!
St. Louis World Championships (Apr. 27 - Apr. 30)
The FRC World Championships is an accomplishment only the top 8% of all robotics teams worldwide can experience. Being invited to this spectacular event was an unbelievable accomplishment for an FRC Robotics team just 2 years from their Rookie Season. The team performed well, increasing their OPR rating to the highest in 2017–however it was not good enough to advance to the Einstein Playoffs. There were lessons learned from the design and performance of the robot but the heights this Bot brought are unforgettable. The 2016 Season of First Stronghold was the breakout year for this team, and everyone, from mentors, sponsors and parents, just sat back in awe watching the spirit of these students and their dedication to each other lead them to new heights–and most importantly, they improved the community they serve.
